Dear Colleagues,
The Resilient American Communities (RAC) Convocation on Thursday, July 15 will focus on the next phase of the pandemic in the U.S. and the opportunities to save potentially millions of Delta variant infections and thousands of lives in the United States during the start of the school season, during Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. We will look at whether the July 4 holiday created a bump in the daily new cases, infection rates, and positive test rates. Just in the past two weeks we have already seen early indicators of COVID infections increasing particularly in areas with low vaccination rates most likely from the more infectious Delta variant. The data clearly shows that new infections are over-represented in Red states and communities, particularly in their minority and rural and inner city poor populations that are more vulnerable and have low vaccination rates, as well as less use of effective behavioral and social methods to reduce COVID transmission.
Vaccination rates have now stalled during the past month. Mass vaccinations and persuasion campaigns are not yielding significant improvements in vaccination rate now. However, where bottom up engagement of family and friends circles and trust networks are coming to the conclusion that they are at significant risk and vaccinations are clearly reducing sickness and death, vaccinations are still increasing. This would indicate that the RAC bottom-up approach of micro-targeting vaccination equity programs going upstream at the speed of trust is now clearly the best approach to reduce COVID-related sickness, hospitalizations, deaths, and the broader syndemic impacts of the pandemic.
On July 15, we will also be discuss the current status of the roughly 550 RAC sites in 26 states, as well as the upcoming grant opportunities and RAC engagements that may be important for your states and communities. We will also look at where economic recovery is working along with increase health, resilience, and regeneration.
